WHAT ARE COMPRESSION SUITS?
What I'm wearing in my latest video is a heavy-duty latex suit... and... drumroll... a company is offering Total Compression Suits with Latex for the ridiculously low price of $30! Don't let this deal pass you by! They offer many other body shapers I'm going to show you guys, but the latex suits are DEFINITELY the ones to get! My four favorite suits are listed in the following section.
Just to provide a brief explanation of why they work so well: the compression panels in the suits apply strong pressure as you are shaping your problematic areas (i.e. your waist, back, thighs). This produces an increase in blood circulation, encourages a reduction of fluid retention, reduces swelling, and overall assists in contouring your body. The constriction also provides another slight obstacle for your body to work against, which results in an increase in calories burned. Read the research section below.
In my experience, latex compression suits worked great. But I purchased others also.

IMPATIENT DIETER'S COMPRESSION SUITS - WHAT STARS USE TO TIGHTEN THEIR BODIES:
Though it is uncommon in Western Culture, the ancient practice of "belly binding" dates back centuries in cultures across the world. We'll discuss that later, but in our modern society, Compression Suits are the secret Hollywood Starlets use to shape their physiques! You may know that people who have had plastic surgery wear them afterward to help shape their bodies; but you may not know, they reportedly assist in shaping bodies of people, regardless of if they've had cosmetic surgery -- such as after childbirth or people who lose a lot of weight. As older subscribers know, I originally ordered a Stage 1 Compression Suit to wear at night. I did not realize that Stage 1 is looser, bulkier, and designed to be worn for only the first 2 weeks after cosmetic surgery for "healing." I then ordered a Stage 2. But the more I researched about the benefit of compression suits, I found people reporting amazing transformations from wearing compression garments while they exercised (for increased circulation & shaping). That compression garment was not something I could comfortably work out in at all and it irritated my skin. I then wore a capri, dual-compression latex suit while working out and an above-the-knee latex suit to sleep in. Latex provides a high degree of compression, doesn't stretch out, and is surprisingly comfortable. So my non-professional recommendation is that you purchase two latex suits: one to sleep in and one to work out in. Now this company truly rocks, offering them at only $30, but they offer great deals on other suits too. Some of their suits are hard-core like Body Magic with hook-and-eye closure beneath a front zipper. And that super-strength, high compression latex suit is strong as heck! Some of their suits even contain booty pads! I ordered a wide variety--see all below. Seeing me with booty pads will be hilarious! Make sure to tune in! All of these are way more affordable than those dang $200 ones I have bought. By the way, keep a few of those plastic cylinder tube canisters that the Walmart Grape Drink comes in. These are crotchless for going to the bathroom, but unless you have aim from hell, you're going to need to keep a few of those plastic canisters under your bathroom sink cabinet. Trust me! Subliminal Messages embed directly into your subconscious mind. They are effortless and yes... they definitely work! As Dr. Bruce Lipton explains, "The subconscious is in control 95-99% of the time." So how do things get into the subconscious? The conscious mind must learn them, then store them there. What happens when we try to teach the conscious mind and break old habits? We are typically met with resistance. Subliminal Messages are my Easy Way to bypass that entire "Conscious Learning" Process.

But anyway, I'm old-fashioned and I want to get some actual books to thoroughly explore it and investigate how it is practiced in other cultures. Stuff like this really brings out the inner nerd in me... yes... shockingly, there's actually an even bigger nerd inside of me! Shut up! :)
Benefits are also theorized to result from posture correction and alignment, as well as maintaining optimum position of vital organs. Further, compression garments serve as a slight obstacle, causing your body to work harder to perform exercises, which results in an increase in calories burned.
WHY WEAR THEM WHILE SLEEPING?
The majority of studies on compression garmets revolve around "workout recovery." Exercise can result in various degrees of physiological and psychological changes, including increased soft tissue damage (causing muscle soreness), increased fatigue, increased core temperatures, altered mood, etc. Your recovery is influenced by many factors such as genetics, diet, fitness level, sleep, environment, and more. The recovery processes is so important that historically legal and illegal techniques have been used by athletes, including anabolic drugs, over-the-counter drugs, electrical stimulation, supplements, vibration, hypnosis; basically anything to get an edge. Recently, compression garments have been studied for their potential to hasten recovery. Many professional athletes wear compression garments after their workouts for this purpose. Now, the overwhelming body of research has been conducted for the private company, UnderArmour. This is not to take anything away from the credibility of their findings; however, I would be remiss if I did not point out that these research agencies are in fact conducting their studies for a private company. (UnderArmour is an American retailer that creates compression garments for athletes. It was founded by a former professional football player who noted his improved performance and competitve advantage while wearing compression dressings. One day he went to a lingerie factory, bought lingerie material, and began making apparel out of it. This later grew into a corporate enterprise.) In any case, the research results are valid; I just wanted to make that disclosure. Side Note: The problem with research is it is VERY expensive. Someone has to pay for it. Unless a company stands to profit from having studies done, the research is simply not conducted (regardless of how many people it would benefit, i.e. DMSO). So UnderArmour, while a private company, has done a service to us all by funding this research. Sure, they have a financial interest in having studies to back up their claims about their products, but look around; their research is pretty much the only scientific findings available about compression garments.
In one study conducted at The University of Connecticut, the objective was to evaluate the influence of a whole body compression suit on recovery from a typical heavy resistance training workout. The participants, including both men and women, were all physically fit and placed on a diet regulated by a registered dietitian.
The experimental group wore a compression suit for 24 hours following their workout. The control group wore non-compression clothing. In both men and women, muscle soreness ratings were significantly lower with the use of compression garments. The amount of swelling was significantly lower as measured by ultrasound, and the test results demonstrated that fatigue was also significantly lower in the compression garments groups. Vitality ratings were significantly higher with compression use compared to control group. No differences were statistically significant in any of the mood states, nor were the sleep quality differences compared to the control.

A FRIEND'S PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY
While I am a Know-It-All, I do actually take professional opinions under advisement. I have a friend who is a doctor whom I spoke to specifically about the lack of research for using compression garments for aesthetic rather than medicinal purposes. Most research on compression garments revolves around the medical use of compression post-surgery, injury, illness, etc. However, as you may have noticed, there really isn't research studying the use of compression for actually shaping your physique (there are basically only testimonials). He stated that many physicians do take into account "case studies" and there are plenty of case studies for the use of compression suits in shaping the physiques of women post-partum as well as during and after dramatic weight loss. In our use of them, he advises that you should in fact be wearing them for a minimum of one hour following your workout; they should not be immediately removed once your workout is over. He restated the recovery reasons listed in the research above. For this reason, I will bathe after my morning workout, and then wear my "sleep" suit for an hour after working out (I'm too much of a germaphobe to sit in my sweaty workout suit for an hour after exercising!). He also believes that they should not be worn in lieu of performing toning exercises; rather, they should be used as a tool to enhance your results. Therefore, guys, the professional advice on this is that you continue your toning routine. The Callanetics DVD is pretty Type Z, so I'm going to go ahead and resume that, maybe in September when I start everything else. You guys can get her DVD or VHS on Amazon; Callan Pinckney also has a book that is 1 cent.
